Spooky And Tasty Halloween Cookies To Make With Your Kids

Halloween cookies are the ultimate go-to food every Halloween. These recipes will not only satisfy your kids’ sweet tooth but will also spark creativity!

5 Delectable Halloween Cookie Recipes for Your Kids

1. Traditional Halloween Sugar Cookies

Traditional Halloween baked pastry, funny cookies and candies for children's treat - ghost, pumpkins, black cat, bats, witch house | cookie recipes

Ingredients: 

For the Cookies

  • 1/2 tsp. ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp. baking soda
  • 1/4 tsp. ground allspice
  • a pinch of ground cloves
  • 1/2 tsp. ground ginger
  • 1/2 cup  unsalted butter
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 tsp. kosher salt
  • 1/2 cup pumpkin puree, pure
  • 2 large egg yolks
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp. vanilla extract, pure
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar

For the Royal Icing Decoration

  • 2 large egg whites
  • 1 pound of confectioners sugar
  • Food coloring or sprinkles

Reminder: Preheat the oven (350 ºF) and prepare an electric mixer.

Directions: 

For the cookie dough:

  1.  Combine flour, baking soda, cinnamon, ground cloves, ground ginger, nutmeg, and kosher salt in a large bowl.
  2. With your electric mixer, beat the sugar and butter together until smooth. Once done, combine the pumpkin puree into the mixture before adding the egg yolks and vanilla. Beat until the texture is light and fluffy.
  3. Set the mixer speed to low, then gradually pour the flour mixture and mix evenly.
  4. When done, shape the dough into a disk and wrap it with plastic. Refrigerate for at least one hour or until it’s firm.
  5. Roll the dough in a floured clean surface. Make sure it’s about 1/4 inch thick before cutting into a pumpkin, bats, cats, and other shapes.
  6. Transfer them to a baking pan lined with parchment paper. Space them at least 1 inch apart.
  7. Freeze for about 15 minutes or until firm.
  8. Bake for 10 to 12 minutes or until the edges turn brown. Let it cool before transferring to the wire rack.

For the icing:

  1. Beat the egg whites and confectioners sugar until it’s smooth.
  2. Divide the icing into 2 or 3 bowls with a color assigned to each one.
  3. Put the tinted icing in a piping bag and decorate your cookies.

2. Monster Eye Halloween Cookies

Ingredients: 

  • 1 cup butter
  • 1 1/4 cup sugar
  • 2 egg yolks
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 tsp. vanilla
  • 1 tsp. baking soda
  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 tsp. cream of tartar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 3 to 4 tubes of gel food coloring
  • candy eyeballs of varying sizes

Reminder: Preheat the oven to 350 ºF.

Directions: 

  1. Combine sugar and butter in a large bowl.
  2. Add the egg and egg yolk gradually— beat to combine the mixture before adding the next one.
  3. Add vanilla, salt, and beat until mixed thoroughly.
  4. Using a separate bowl, combine flour, baking soda, and cream of tartar.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the sugar batter. Mix until combined evenly.
  6. Chill the cookie batter in the refrigerator for about 30 minutes.
  7. Divide the batter into three bowls, adding a dollop of gel food coloring in each bowl. Mix well.
  8. Scoop into 1-inch balls and put them on the cookie sheet. Make sure not to flatten it.
  9. Bake for about 10-12 minutes.
  10. Once done, remove it from the oven and immediately put the eyeballs in the cookies.
  11. Let cool before serving.

3. Spooky Ghost Cookies

Ingredients: 

For the Cookies

  • 1 tsp. baking powder
  • 3 cups of all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/2 tsp. kosher salt
  • 2 sticks softened butter
  • 1 tbsp. milk
  • 1 tsp. pure vanilla extract

For Royal Icing

  • 3 cups powdered sugar
  • 1/4 cup light corn syrup
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/4 tsp. almond extract
  • Black food coloring

Reminder: Preheat the oven to 350 and prepare 2 baking pans with parchment paper.

Directions: 

For the cookie dough:

  1. Combine flour, baking powder, and salt.
  2. In a separate bowl, beat the butter and sugar. Add the egg, milk, vanilla and then continue beating until combined.
  3. Gradually add the flour mixture, mixing after every addition.
  4. Shape the dough into a disk and wrap with plastic and refrigerate for an hour or until firm.
  5. Roll out dough to 1/8 inch thick.
  6. Using a ghost-shaped cookie cutter, cut the cookie dough.
  7. Transfer the cookie dough into the baking sheet and chill for about 10 minutes.
  8. Bake the cookies for 8 to 10 minutes. After, transfer the cookies into the wire cooling rack and let it cool.

For the Icing:

  1. Combine powdered sugar, corn syrup, milk, and almond (or vanilla) extract.
  2. In a small bowl, place 1/4 of icing and dye it black.
  3. Fill the center of the cookies with black icing. This will serve as the eyes and mouth.
  4. For the remaining white icing, gradually add 1 teaspoon of milk to thin the icing. Mix well before adding the next teaspoon of milk.
  5. When done, place the white icing in a pipe with a round tip. Start piping the edges of the cookies, then work your way towards the inner part.
  6. Let it dry for about 25 minutes or until the icing is set.

Tip: Use a toothpick to get rid of the air bubbles and to evenly spread the icing.

4. No-Bake Jack-O-Lantern Halloween Cookies

Ingredients: 

  • 12 sandwich cookies, either square or round
  • 1 tube of black gel icing
  • 12 oz. orange candy melts
  • 12 chocolate chips
  • 1 tube of green gel icing
  • toothpicks
  • chocolate cookie (optional)

Reminder: Prepare a parchment paper on a flat surface—this where the cookies will be placed after being dipped.

Directions: 

  1. Melt the candy in a microwave. Then, stir candy to ensure that it has completely melted.
  2. Dip the cookies in the melted candy. Make sure it’s evenly coated.
  3. Place the dipped candy into the parchment paper. Repeat the process until all the cookies are covered with candy.
  4. Allow the candy to set for a few minutes.
  5. Place brown gel icing for the stem.
  6. Use green gel icing for the leaf. If you don’t use a nozzle, cut a V-shape at the tip of your bag. Form a leaf next to the stem on top.
  7. For the eyes, eyebrows, and mouth, use the black gel icing. Put it on an icing pipe and start decorating.
  8. Allow the icing and candy to set before serving. Enjoy!

5. Coffin Halloween Cookies

Ingredients: 

  • 2 sticks of butter, room temperature
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1 tbsp. vanilla extract
  • 2/3 cup cocoa powder
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1/4 tsp. baking powder

Directions: 

  1. Mix the sugar and butter in a large bowl. Beat the mixture until it turns fluffy.
  2. Slowly add the eggs and vanilla.
  3. In a separate bowl, mix the flour, salt, and baking powder.
  4. Using the electric mixer, add cocoa powder to the butter mixture and mix at low speed until combined.
  5. Gradually add the flour mixture.
  6. Knead the dough until the color is uniformly dark brown.
  7. Divide the dough into three batches, flatten lightly, and wrap using a plastic.
  8. Chill for about 3 hours or overnight.
  9. Roll the dough into 1/4 inch thick.
  10. Use a coffin-shaped cookie cutter to cut the dough.
  11. Bake for about 5 to 8 minutes at 375 ºF.
  12. Lastly, stack the coffin Halloween cookies together, let cool, and serve.
