MEATLOAF RECIPE

Meatloaf is basically a ground beef-shaped loaf that is seasoned with earthy spices and topped with a sweet ketchup glaze. Not that you needed that introduction, of course, because meatloaf is everything our childhood was made up of! When it comes to meatloaf, homemade is always the way to go as pre-made mixes can be a bit…questionable. Let’s get started and learn how to make the perfect, ultimate meatloaf!
Make your own BBQ sauce with this Artisan BBQ Sauce-Making Kit from Grow & Make!
What you’ll need:
- 2 Tablespoon butter
- ¾ cups onions, diced
- 3-4 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 lbs lean ground beef
- 2 eggs, slightly beaten
- 1-2 teaspoons seasoning salt
- ½ teaspoon black pepper
- ¼ teaspoon dry mustard
- ½ teaspoon marjoram or oregano
- ½ teaspoon of thyme
- 3-4 tablespoons fresh parsley
- ¼ cup BBQ sauce
- ¼ cup chili sauce
- 1-2 Tablespoon of Worcestershire sauce
- ½ cup whole milk
- 3 slices wheat bread, toasted, crumbled
For the glaze:
- ¼ cup ketchup
- ¼ cup chili sauce
- 1 cup Chargrill BBQ Sauce
Step 1
Add some butter into a large skillet then begin dicing the onions.
Step 2
Throw the diced onions into the skillet.
Step 3
Add the minced garlic and saute it with the onions. Cook both the garlic and onions until they are translucent.
Step 4
Scoop the sauteed onions and garlic into a bowl.
Step 5
Add your lean ground beef into the bowl and mix the onions and garlic into it.
Step 6
Get your slightly beaten eggs and pour that into the mixture.
Step 7
Add in your spices.
Step 8
Add your barbecue sauce.
Step 9
Add in some chili sauce for slight spiciness. This step is optional.
Step 10
Add the Worcestershire sauce.
Step 11
Pour in a half cup of whole milk.
Step 12
Put your toasted buttered bread crumbs into the bowl.
Step 13
Mix the ingredients together using your hands. Don’t forget to wash your hands beforehand though! If you don’t want to use your hands, feel free to use a spatula but please note that it will take longer to properly incorporate the ingredients.
Step 14
Get a portion of the mixture then use the pan you used for onions and garlic. Cook that and taste just to make sure the seasonings are on point. This step is optional, but important as you don’t want to cook the meatloaf and then realize it’s missing seasoning! However, if you think you know how it will taste and trust your spice rationing abilities, skip this step and proceed to the next one.
Step 15
Put the mixture into a loaf pan and press it down with a spatula to get rid of the air pockets then set it aside.
Step 16
Once your loaf has been set, mix some ketchup, chili and BBQ sauce in a bowl to create the glaze that will go on top of your meatloaf.
Step 17
Now go ahead and spread the half of the sauce on top of your meatloaf.
Step 18
Your oven should be preheated to 350. Your meatloaf will be in the oven for about 30 minutes.
Step 19
After 30 minutes, pull the meatloaf out of the oven and put the rest of the sauce on top of it then cook for another 30 minutes or until it’s done.
Step 20
After a couple of minutes, your meatloaf will come out looking great. You can sprinkle it with onion flakes or whatever you want. After it has set for a while, cut your loaf into slices and serve!
Yay! With these simple and easy steps you can enjoy firm, juicy and flavorful homemade meatloaf whenever you’ like! Serve them with mashed potatoes, some roasted beans or other roasted veggies!
