How To Make Fried Chicken | Spicy Fried Chicken

While KFC, Church’s and Popeyes all compete for the best fried chicken available, nothing beats the homemade stuff. Accompanied with some mac n’ cheese, coleslaw, collard greens and corn bread, nothing beats a steaming plate of fried chicken for dinner. That sounds great and all, but if you’ve never made fried chicken you might be thinking, “Where do I start?”

Luckily, you don’t need to be from the South (or be a grandmother) to perfect fried chicken. Thanks to Instructables’ user Muhaiminah Faiz‘s guide, you can learn how to make spicy fried chicken that’ll give you that extra kick you need in your life.

For this tutorial, you’ll need the following:

  • 1 lb. chicken (chopped)
  • 1 tsp. chili powder
  • 1 tsp. black pepper
  • 1 tsp. garlic paste
  • 1 tsp. ginger paste
  • 1/2 c. all purpose flour
  • 1/2 c. rice flour
  • 1 tbsp. coriander leaves (chopped)
  • salt
  • oil

Step 1: Marinate the Chicken

Start by washing and cleaning the chopped chicken. In a bowl, add the cleaned chicken pieces and also throw in the garlic paste, ginger paste, black pepper and a dash of salt. Mix everything really well and keep them in a dry place for marinating while you prepare the batter. Also, put oil in a pan and heat it to medium flame.

Step 2: Prepare the Batter & Dip The Chicken

In another bowl, mix the all purpose flour, rice flour, chili powder and a dash of salt. Also add a bit of water to make the batter thicker and chopped coriander leavers.

Grab a piece of chicken and put it into the batter. Cover the entire chicken in batter.

Step 3: Fry & Serve

Add the batter-covered chicken pieces to the pan with the heated oil on low-medium heat. Make sure to fry all sides evenly until they’re a golden or light brown color.
