Homemade Brussel Sprouts Bacon Recipe
Yeah, Brussels sprouts may not be your favorite vegetables, but have you ever tasted the mild, nutty bitter taste mixed with smokey pork? It's just something about bacon that adds a bit of sweetness to Brussels sprouts that makes it worthwhile, giving some flavor to the cabbage side-dish. Even if you're the pickiest of eaters, you'll be gobbling up this brussel sprouts bacon recipe up in no time. Check out the dish, from Kitchen Bowl user serenastyle, below.
Ingredients:
- 3 c. brussels sprouts
- 1 red onion
- 3 slices of bacon
- 2 tbsp. olive oil
- 2 tbsp. balsamic vinegar
- salt and pepper, to taste
Step 1: Cook Bacon
Cut up your 3 strips of bacon into small pieces and throw them in a pan over medium heat.
Step 2: Prepare Brussels Sprouts
Gently rinse about 3 cups of Brussels sprouts.
Step 3: Cut Brussels Sprouts
Cut the Brussels sprouts in half across the length. Also, peel and slice the red onion.
Step 4: Sauté Onions With Bacon
Grab the slices of red onion and add them to the already cooked bacon, along with a tiny bit of oil. Sauté them until caramelized.
Step 5: Sauté Brussels Sprouts
Now add the Brussels sprouts (face down) to the pan and add more oil. Sauté until they start to brown and add as much salt and pepper as you like.
Step 6: Serve!
Remove from heat, add a good chug of balsamic, toss, and serve!
