Is Instant Pot Bread Worth the Trouble?
Instant Pot Bread Recipe
Homemade bread can be difficult and time-consuming but you’re in luck if you happen to own an Instant Pot. Typically, no-knead bread takes around 18 hours to rise but with an Instant Pot your DIY bread will be ready to bake within 3 to 4 hours. This type of bread recipe is perfect for beginners.
Today we’ll be sharing an easy bread recipe and tips on how to make your Instant Pot bread delicious!
Ingredients:
- 3 1/4 cups all-purpose flour (extra on the side for sprinkling)
- 1 1/4 of teaspoons instant yeast or active dry yeast
- 2 pinches of salt
- 1 1/2 of cups tepid water (water should be around 90-100° F)
- 2 tablespoons olive oil (extra for greasing the pot)
- Optional: 1-2 teaspoons of granulated sugar
Step 1: Mix the Dry Ingredients
In a large bowl, mix flour, yeast, and salt. Add your sugar now if you’d like your bread to have a sweeter flavor to it. Mix ingredients so that they are well combined and go ahead and add the lukewarm water and olive oil to the bowl.
Mix well to combine all the ingredients and your dough should look a little shaggy and like this.
Step 2: Put the Dough in the Instant Pot
Next, grease the inner pot of your Instant Pot with a few teaspoons of olive oil. Set your Instant Pot to the yogurt setting. Make sure it’s on the lowest setting or “less”, which should be at around 88° F.
Place your dough in the pot and cover the pot with a towel. Afterward, place the glass lid or a plate on top and set the timer for 3 1/2 hours.
Step 3: Shape the Dough
After the timer is up, take your dough out of the pot and onto a floured surface. Be sure to sprinkle a little extra flour on your dough if it’s looking a little on the wet side.
Now you want to do your best to shape the dough into a smooth ball by using a bench scraper or your floured hands.
Step 4: Prepare the Dough for Proofing
Transfer your dough ball to a floured sheet of parchment paper and transfer your dough into the Instant Pot. Set your Instant Pot to the yogurt setting again and set the timer to 30 minutes and cover with a cloth or plate.

Step 5: Preheat the Dutch Oven

While your dough is proofing in your Instant Pot, place a 4-quart (or larger) Dutch oven in the oven and set it to 450° F. If you don’t have a Dutch oven, you can use an oven-proof skillet pan or an oven-proof soup pot.
Step 6: Carefully Place Dough Into Hot Dutch Oven
After your dough is done proofing for 30 minutes, carefully take your Dutch oven out of the oven, place it on a rack, and remove the lid. Using the ends of the parchment paper, carefully place your dough into the hot Dutch oven, cover the pot and return it to your oven.
Step 7: Bake the Bread

Bake the bread, covered, for 30 minutes. After the 30 minutes are up, remove the lid and continue baking your bread for 10-15 minutes or until a golden-brown crust develops.
Step 8: And Now, The Hardest Part: The Waiting
Lastly, let your bread cool in your Dutch oven for at least 10-15 minutes and remove to a rack. Let cool completely before slicing and serving.
And there you have it, fresh homemade bread with a little help from your Instant Pot! Reminder, homemade bread has no preservatives, so make sure to consume it within 2 to 3 days. We love our fresh bread with a schmear of butter and a sprinkle of salt.
