While a good part of the world’s population is staying home, it seems that baking has become a new pastime for a lot of us. We’ve been seeing everything from pastries, cookies, cakes, and breads all over social media. Instant Pot bread can be a real timesaver and delicious at the same time.

Is Instant Pot Bread Worth the Trouble?

Instant Pot Bread Recipe

Homemade bread can be difficult and time-consuming but you’re in luck if you happen to own an Instant Pot. Typically, no-knead bread takes around 18 hours to rise but with an Instant Pot your DIY bread will be ready to bake within 3 to 4 hours. This type of bread recipe is perfect for beginners.

Today we’ll be sharing an easy bread recipe and tips on how to make your Instant Pot bread delicious!

Ingredients:

|

  • 3 1/4 cups all-purpose flour (extra on the side for sprinkling)
  • 1 1/4 of teaspoons instant yeast or active dry yeast
  • 2 pinches of salt
  • 1 1/2 of cups tepid water (water should be around 90-100° F)
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil (extra for greasing the pot)
  • Optional: 1-2 teaspoons of granulated sugar

Step 1: Mix the Dry Ingredients

|

In a large bowl, mix flour, yeast, and salt. Add your sugar now if you’d like your bread to have a sweeter flavor to it. Mix ingredients so that they are well combined and go ahead and add the lukewarm water and olive oil to the bowl.

Mix well to combine all the ingredients and your dough should look a little shaggy and like this.

Step 2: Put the Dough in the Instant Pot

|

Next, grease the inner pot of your Instant Pot with a few teaspoons of olive oil. Set your Instant Pot to the yogurt setting. Make sure it’s on the lowest setting or “less”, which should be at around 88° F.

Place your dough in the pot and cover the pot with a towel. Afterward, place the glass lid or a plate on top and set the timer for 3 1/2 hours.

Step 3: Shape the Dough

|

After the timer is up, take your dough out of the pot and onto a floured surface. Be sure to sprinkle a little extra flour on your dough if it’s looking a little on the wet side.

Now you want to do your best to shape the dough into a smooth ball by using a bench scraper or your floured hands.

Step 4: Prepare the Dough for Proofing

|

Transfer your dough ball to a floured sheet of parchment paper and transfer your dough into the Instant Pot. Set your Instant Pot to the yogurt setting again and set the timer to 30 minutes and cover with a cloth or plate.

Step 5: Preheat the Dutch Oven

While your dough is proofing in your Instant Pot, place a 4-quart (or larger) Dutch oven in the oven and set it to 450° F. If you don’t have a Dutch oven, you can use an oven-proof skillet pan or an oven-proof soup pot.

Step 6: Carefully Place Dough Into Hot Dutch Oven

|

After your dough is done proofing for 30 minutes, carefully take your Dutch oven out of the oven, place it on a rack, and remove the lid. Using the ends of the parchment paper, carefully place your dough into the hot Dutch oven, cover the pot and return it to your oven.

Step 7: Bake the Bread

Bake the bread, covered, for 30 minutes. After the 30 minutes are up, remove the lid and continue baking your bread for 10-15 minutes or until a golden-brown crust develops.

Step 8: And Now, The Hardest Part: The Waiting

Lastly, let your bread cool in your Dutch oven for at least 10-15 minutes and remove to a rack. Let cool completely before slicing and serving.

And there you have it, fresh homemade bread with a little help from your Instant Pot! Reminder, homemade bread has no preservatives, so make sure to consume it within 2 to 3 days. We love our fresh bread with a schmear of butter and a sprinkle of salt.

After a little practice making Instant Pot bread, you can tweak and add different elements such as fresh herbs, roasted garlic, herbs and many more to make it your own flavor. We’ve included a few bread recipes so you can try them out once you’ve got the technique down.

You Can Try Other Instant Pot Bread Recipes

1. Instant Pot Olive Oil Rosemary No-Knead Bread

This easy bread recipe from Cooking Carnival uses bread flour and fresh rosemary to give the bread a delicious aroma and great chew. You’ll need pretty much the same set of ingredients as the recipe mentioned above with a few differences. This recipe calls for bread flour and you also need 2 tablespoons of fresh rosemary and 1/4 cup of extra virgin olive oil.

2. Instant Pot Banana Nut Bread

|

Finally, we thought we’d share a recipe especially for those of you with a sweet tooth. Banana bread is a simple and delicious dessert bread that uses the Instant Pot to give it a moist and delicious texture.

No need to transfer pots here because this is a one instrument job but you will need a bundt pan to bake the bread in. This bread recipe calls for walnuts but you can easily substitute in pecans, raisins, dates, even chocolate chips, and anything else you think would pair well with banana bread.

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup softened butter (leave at room temperature at least 30 mins before preparing)
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 2 large eggs, room temperature
  • 3 bananas, mashed
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon sea salt
  • 1 cup walnut (optional, or another preferred nut)
  • Optional add-ins: 4 ounces chocolate chips or 4 ounces toffee chips

And there you have it! As you’ve seen from the recipe mentioned, baking homemade bread doesn’t have to be a difficult and all-day affair. Instant Pot bread is a cinch and with a little practice you’ll be whipping up bread like a true master baker!

You implied you didn’t need an oven to bake the bread. Not true.
