Start An Independence Day Tradition With This 4th Of July Cake

America. Land of the free and home of some of the most outrageous food you'll ever see (like sushi donuts). With 4th of July, isn't it only right that you keep up the tradition of “wow” dishes by preparing the most patriotic dish of all time? Thanks to the imaginative mind of Reddit user Shannynh, we've got a wonderful 4th of July cake that everyone will go crazy for.

Ingredients:

Cake:

  • 1 1/4 stick butter, unsalted
  • 1 1/2 cup sugar
  • 3 eggs
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 1 tsp. vanilla extract
  • 1 1/2 cups flour
  • 2 tbsp. corn starch
  • 1 tbsp. baking powder

Frosting:

  • 2 cups cream cheese
  • 1 1/2 stick butter, unsalted
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 tsp. vanilla extract

Decoration:

  • raspberries
  • blueberries

Instructions:

  1. Use a mixer to combine butter and sugar until it's soft and fluffy. Add the three eggs and sour cream and combine.
  2. In a separate bowl, mix cornstarch, baking powder and vanilla extract.
  3. Combine both mixtures.
  4. Spray down a large cake pan with oil, pour in the mixture and spread it evenly.
  5. Bake for 25 minutes at 35F. This is your cake.
  6. Grab your mixer and combine your cream butter, cream cheese, powdered sugar and vanilla extract to get your frosting. Set aside.
  7. Pour 1/4 of the frosting on your cake and even it out with a spatula.
  8. Use a toothpick to mark off the area with the stars.
  9. Place the frosting in a pastry bag and squeeze out five lines across the cake, which will be the white stripes on the flag. Leave a line gap between each of them. These will be the red stripes.
  10. Line up raspberries in the spaces between the frosting lines.
  11. Fill up the square with blueberries.
  12. Squeeze little dollops of frosting on the blueberries to represent the stars.
  13. Your 4th of July cake is now ready to be enjoyed!
