A lot of us are cooking more at home these days which is great since it’s generally healthier and cheaper than ordering take out or delivery. However, with many restaurants closed during this pandemic, it may also the more practical option for right now. Even if it’s been a while since you hit the grocery store, you’d be surprised with the stuff you can make with these 3 ingredient recipes.
That’s right. No complicated recipes to follow with a long list of ingredients to buy and prepare. Read on as we share with you 9 3-ingredient recipes that can save you in a pinch when you may not have a lot of ingredients on hand.
Just 3 Ingredients? No Problem
1. 3-Ingredient Ice Cream French Toast
No eggs or milk in the fridge? No problem.
- 1 pint of vanilla ice cream, melted
- 4 slices of bread, preferably brioche or challah
The ice cream takes over for the traditional milk and eggs custard and adds a great sweetness to your french toast that you almost don’t need syrup. Almost, but that’s just us. Perfect go-to recipe when you want a delectable breakfast or brunch but don’t have a lot of ingredients on hand.
We also love serving this alongside a plate of fresh fruit for a complete and delicious meal to start the day with.
2. Root Beer Pulled Pork Sandwiches
A lack of ingredients is where a slow cooker really shines. The pork cooks low and slow for 6 hours in the root beer, getting extremely tender that you can pull it apart with a fork. After your pork is cooked, add in your barbecue sauce of choice, heat and serve on hamburger buns.
If you don’t have a slow cooker, a pressure cooker works just as well and in a shorter amount of time. But if you do have the extra time on your hands, go ahead and make your own homemade BBQ sauce while the pork is cooking to really level up this dish.
3. Salsa Verde Quinoa With Chicken Thighs
One pot is all you need for this 3 ingredient recipe. Make sure not to drain off the fat in the pan from the chicken as this will add a ton of flavor to the quinoa alongside the salsa verde.
Also, we love using chicken thighs rather than chicken breasts because they’re more flavorful and don’t dry out that easily during the cooking process.
This is a great dinner idea if you’re coming home from work. Just prep the chicken and let it finish in the oven while you shower and settle down. Once the quinoa is fluffy, you’re ready to eat this tasty 3 ingredient meal.
4. Pizza Frittata
Another one of those “put-everything-in-the-pan-and-throw-it-in-the-oven” type of recipes. We like those types of recipes. This one cooks in the oven for about 30 minutes or until the frittata is slightly browned on top.
Finish it off with mozzarella during the last 5 minutes of cooking and you’re good to go. Great to make ahead of time and keep warm in the oven while you go about your day.
5. Smashed Pea and Smoked Salmon Toast
A little on the fancy side but if you’ve got some smoked salmon lying around, why not go for it? The sweet and salty combination of the smoked salmon and peas is a surprisingly delicious combination that we love on toast.
Also, if you want to cheat and add one more ingredient to the mix like butter or cream cheese, we won’t judge you.
6. Easy 3-Ingredient Chili
A delicious hearty chili doesn’t need a ton of ingredients or all day to cook to be delicious. This recipe from I Heart Nap Time is proof of that. 30 minutes is all you need for this chili to cook and meld those flavors together.
Feel free to switch things around. If you want ground turkey or cubed chicken as your meat, go for it. Also, you can totally substitute any preferred beans you like for your chili in this 3 ingredient recipe.
7. Mac & Cheese
Yup, you read that right, just 3 ingredients to make this mac & cheese recipe. The shortcut here is that you’ll be cooking the pasta directly in the milk and as it’s cooked, you’ll finish it off with your cheese.
A practical recipe to have in a pinch when you’re craving for macaroni and cheese but lacking ingredients or the boxed stuff in your cupboard.
8. Carrot Noodles With Chicken and Pesto
We’ve got a lot of love for zucchini noodles but let’s all give carrot noodles a chance. A great 3 ingredient recipe that is quick, easy, and healthier than the usual pasta alternative.
Very handy to have especially if you’re trying to cut back on carbs or gluten. Also, a great way to get your kids to up their veggies intake.
9. 3-Ingredient Steak With Crispy Parmesan Potatoes
Steak, potatoes, and parmesan. That’s all you need for this recipe. We love the technique used in this recipe from Epicurious that gets the potatoes super crispy. The key is you par-cook the potatoes by boiling them, crushing them slightly, and finishing them off in a skillet.
The crushing step adds this great texture for craggy, crispy, crunchy potatoes. For your steak, even if you are in a hurry to eat, don’t neglect to let your steak rest at least 5-10 minutes before cutting into it. Trust us, it’ll do wonders in helping your steak retain all its juices after cooking.
Who says you need a fully stocked pantry to make quick and easy meals? We know that simply isn’t the case. We hope these easy recipes give you the confidence to know you can whip up magic even with a recipe that isn’t heavy on ingredients.
