Kellogg Company is a an American multinational food manufacturing company that makes some of our favorite snacks and cereals: Froot Loops, Frosted Flakes, Rice Krispies, Pop-Tarts, Pringles, Eggos, and of course Cheez-Its. The crackers, made from wheat flour, vegetable oil, sharp cheddar cheese, salt and spices, are universally loved thanks to their compact size, various flavors and inexpensive price. While finding them at the grocery store is as easy as can be, nothing feels better than making your own snacks. If you’re a fan of the cheesy crackers, try your hand at homemade Cheez-Its!
Ingredients:
- 2 c. grated sharp cheddar cheese
- 1/2 c. unsalted butter, soft
- 1 1/2 c. unbleached all-purpose flour
- 3/4 tsp. salt
- ice water
- 1/4 tsp. chili powder
- 1/8 tsp. paprika
- 1/8 tsp. cayenne
Directions:
- Blend the butter and cheese in a mixer.
- Add flour, salt and spices.
- If necessary, throw in a tablespoon or two of ice water in case the dough doesn’t stick together.
- Divide the dough into two rectangle shapes then wrap them in plastic and refrigerate for 20 to 30 minutes.
- Preheat your oven to 350F.
- Take the dough out of the fridge and roll each rectangle on parchment.
- Prick the dough with a fork all over.
- Cut small squares with a pizza wheel (don’t separate the squares, they’ll pull away from each other when you bake them).
- Place the parchment on a baking sheet and into the oven for 10 minutes. You’ll know they’re done with each cracker has a slight brown color around the edges.
