There is a chill in the air! The weather is changing and your body must adapt to the change of season. But what if your body doesn’t want to? You don’t want to end up staying in bed because you’ve caught a cold or the flu. Here is a homemade remedy that is a quick and easy way to help your body heal faster. And if you have an upcoming recital, this is the solution to your problem too. Don’t piss off your pianist by coming to the performance with a hoarse voice, try these remedies that will help you relieve your flu.

Honey, lemon and ginger are widely used and recognized to help heal colds and the flu individually. When these three ingredients are combined, it makes for a great remedy. Aside from flu and cold, it can also relieve many symptoms such as infection and inflammation.

Here are a few of the benefits and natural properties you can get on honey, lemon and ginger.

  • Honey – Its make up consists of glucose (31.3%), fructose (38.2%), and minerals such as iron, calcium, sodium chlorine, potassium, magnesium, phosphate. It is an antibacterial, has anti-inflammatory properties, a cough suppressor, antioxidant, antitumor and antiviral. Make sure not to use honey on children under 2 years of age.
  • Lemon – Contains many substances such as citric acid, calcium, magnesium, vitamin C, bioflavonoids, pectin, and limonene – these promote immunity and fight infection, is an antiviral and anti-inflammatory, aids in digestion, and effective against human respiratory syncytial virus.
  • Ginger – Is used for treating loss of appetite, nausea and vomiting after surgery, nausea resulting from cancer treatment, flatulence, upset stomach, colic, morning sickness and motion sickness.

When these three ingredients are combined, it creates a great remedy to help relieve your aches and pains, along with tasting great.

Here’s how to start making your homemade cold and flu remedy.

Ingredients:

For Sore Throat a great natural remedy that works… Red Wine, or Apple Cider Vinegar and Clover Honey. Mix equal parts 1/4 (or 1/2) cup each vinegar and honey mixed together. I mis mine in the squeezable honey container and store in fridge. Stores for a long time. Shake well. Take 1 Tablespoon up to six times per day for sore throat. The vinegar kills bacteria, and the honey soothes and coats the throat. This really works!

I used to add lemon and honey to my green tea. But now I have diabetes and have cut out the honey. I use Splenda now..

A good alternative to the old standby salt-water gargle for sore throats is dill pickle juice. It has salt as well as vinegar….and it tastes good! Just warm in the microwave and gargle.

For Jack, you might want to change from Splenda to stevia. There have been some concerning articles written about Splenda. Stevia is natural and you can grow it yourself just like mint.

Does it have to be fresh ingredients? Or could I possibly sub for dried lemon (perhaps soaked in a bit of warm water first) and maybe candied ginger? What do you think?

Probably so. We used fresh, but I imagine dry will work quite well. Let us know. Thanks!

Coughing will wake you in the middle of the night and to stop this apply Vicks Vapo rub on your feet and cover with a pair of sox. Great for children’s coughs too.

The flu never gets to me when I feel it coming on I slice a clove or two of garlic into thin slices and apply to a buttered slice of bread, fold and micro wave for about ten second to make the bread soft and warm. Gobble the gallic sandwich down fast, get it down, and that is it. I understand you won’t be nice company for a day but you won’t be sick.
