From its humble beginnings in San Francisco to restaurants all over the world, the revolutionary sushiritto (sushi+burrito) is here to stay.

Orange Chicken Sushiritto | Homemade Recipes

“Mutant foods” are all the craze now. Everything from cronuts (donut+croissant) to ramen burgers (self-explanatory) have made their way from food trucks and mom & pop shops to restaurants, diners and stands all over the country…and even the world. One of those “mutants” is the sushiritto: a sheet of nori stuffed with veggies, fish, rice, chicken and more, rolled up and served like a burrito. Sure, you can wait in line (usually long) and pay (usually expensive) for a sushiritto, but why not cut the cost and wait by making your own right at home? Master the art of the sushiritto with this orange chicken version below.

Ingredients:

Directions:

  1. Get all of your ingredients ready, including chopped cucumbers, sliced avocado, shredded carrots, and shredded purple cabbage.
  2. Add your eggs to a pot of boiling water. Let them cook for 6-7 minutes, remove them and immediately place them in an ice bath.
  3. Place the brown rice on the nori and press it down with your hands.
  4. Arrange the orange chicken, soft-boiled egg, cucumbers, carrots, avocado and purple cabbage on top of the brown rice. Place the egg directly in the middle.
  5. Roll the nori sheet slowly, pushing down on it slightly the entire time. Cut it in half and enjoy!
