It tastes exactly like the classic cheese steak sandwich without the buns. They're small but absolutely big in flavors. These Philly cheese steaks are the kind of snacks and appetizer you will crave all year round!

Ingredients for mini Philly cheese steaks:

For the steak mixture:

  • 12 ounce skirt steak
  • 1/2 cup pickled pepper and onion relish or sauteed onions and sweet peppers
  • salt
  • pepper

For the “Cheez Whiz “sauce:

  • 2 tbsp flour
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 1 cup cold milk
  • provolone cheese
  • ground nutmeg
  • cayenne powder
  • salt

For the mini Philly cheese steaks:

  • baguette slices
  • steak mixture
  • “cheez whiz” sauce
  • sliced or grated provolone

Step 1: Prepare The “Cheez Whiz” Sauce

Melt the butter over medium heat. Add the flour, and stir it for a few minutes or until it turns golden.

Step 2: Add The Milk

Add a cup of cold milk and whisk until the mixture thickens. Turn off the heat, then add cayenne powder, ground nutmeg, and salt.

Step 3: Add The Cheese

Tear up two thick slices of provolone cheese and add them to the mixture. Stir until melted and well combined. Transfer your prepared provolone “cheez whiz” to a small bowl and reserve until it's needed.

Step 4: Prepare The Meat

Get a skirt steak or you can also use flap meat or rib eye. Season the meat with salt and ground black pepper on both sides. Cook the meat from medium-rare to medium.

Step 5: Add A Sauce

Add water into the pan and stir until the meat residue is dissolved and caramelized. Smother the sauce all over the meat and let it cool.

Step 6: Prepare The Steak Mixture

Dice the meat and toss them with pickled pepper and onion relish or sauteed onions and sweet peppers.

Step 7: Assemble The Bread

Prepare your baguette slices and line them up in a baking tray. Drizzle each slice with some olive oil or melted butter, then on the other side of the bread, spread a nice layer of provolone “cheez whiz”. Top the bread with a spoonful of steak mixture and add some strips of provolone cheese.
