Hi,
Your recipe sounds/looks easy enough for me to try. I’ve been making homemade and from scratch recipes for awhile now and I love it. I was just wondering if I could use margarine or shortening in place of the butter? Thanx for your response.
Hello Ginny! Thanks for checking out our Homemade Cake Recipe post. As for replacing the butter with margarine or shortening, it is possible, but also important to note that because of the chemical structure of butter – fats, sugar and water content – the end result of your cake will differ between the two ingredients. Butter will create a cake that’s lighter, moister and fluffier whereas margarine will not. That said, we’d love to hear about your experience with this recipe if you do decide to use margarine. 🙂
As for the egg whites, they can be beaten until foamy to create a voluminous structure similar to that of angel cake.
I hope this helps and let us know how your recipe went! Thanks, Ginny, for being an awesome reader of Homemade Recipes!
I got 2 more ?’s: Shouldn’t the egg whites be beaten with a mixer until foamy or stiff peaks form? Can I grease the pan w/ shortening? Thanx.
