There comes a time when all you need is a quick release from the stress that the world gives you. Quite frankly, nothing beats a quick bite of one of your favorite comfort foods.

With this in mind, all I can think of are classic homemade buttermilk biscuits.

Have A Bite of Pure Goodness: Homemade Buttermilk Biscuits

Let's get baking!

You will need:

  • A cup of buttermilk
  • 5 tbsps of vegetable shortening (chilled)
  • Half a teaspoon of baking soda
  • A Tbsp of baking powder
  • 2 cups of all-purpose flour

Procedure:

Step 1.

Preheat oven to 425 F.

Step 2.

In a large bowl, mix salt, baking powder, baking soda and flour.

Step 3.

Put shortening into the flour mixture. Use a mixer to mix them all together until coarse crumbs appear in the mixture.

Step 4.

Add buttermilk while using a fork to toss the mixture and buttermilk together. Toss it until they combine.

Step 5.

Put dough into a floured surface and shape it into a disc. Knead it a few time until it becomes smooth.

Step 6.

Form biscuits into shapes with ¾ inch thickness. Set them 2 inches apart in an ungreased pan.

Step 7.

Bake for 12 to 15 minutes or until golden brown.

These bad boys are also great with cheese dips and chocolate puddings. You can never go wrong with a little bit of maple syrup too. Enjoy!
