Thinking about eggs for dinner? With this deliciously seasoned shakshuka recipe, it's not only acceptable…it's totally recommended.

Breakfast For Dinner: Homemade Shakshuka Recipe

Shakshouka, also known as shakshuka, is a Jewish dish made from poached eggs, tomato sauce, chili peppers, onions, and a number of spices. While it's long been a staple in the Middle East, the delicious egg dish is now making its way to the United States. If you're into Mediterranean food and want to try something different, we've got a simple shakshuka recipe that you can prepare in about 30 minutes.

Ingredients:

  • 1 onion
  • 1 clove of garlic
  • 1/2 red bell pepper
  • 3 slices of pickled jalapeno
  • can of tomatoes, diced
  • 2 eggs
  • goat cheese
  • 1/2 tsp. cumin
  • 1/4 tsp. turmeric
  • 1/4 tsp. paprika powder
  • parsley, for garnishing

Directions:

  1. Dice the onion and add the pieces to a pan filled with olive oil over medium heat.
  2. Saute the onions for about 5 minutes.
  3. Slice the bell pepper, jalapenos and garlic.
  4. Add them to the pan and saute for another 5 minutes.
  5. Add the spices to the pan and let them bloom for a minute.
  6. Throw in the can of tomatoes and let everything simmer for 15 minutes, while stirring occasionally. Add some water if the mixture is too thick.
  7. Make two wells in the tomato mixture and crack an egg in each one. Sprinkle goat cheese over the eggs, cover with a lid and cook for about 6 minutes.
  8. Garnish the mixture with slices of toasted bread.
