Easy Recipe For Apple Pie
If you wish to have a taste of the classic apple pie but you wish to avoid the sugary, store-brought ones, it is time for you to discover the simple joy of baking a pie from scratch. Here is a simple apple pie recipe to try:
You Will Need:
- For the filling:
- 3 pounds of apples
- 3 tablespoons of all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon of apple cider vinegar
- 2/3 cup of sugar, add depending to taste
- ¼ teaspoon of nutmeg (ground)
- ¼ teaspoon of allspice (ground)
- ½ teaspoon of cinnamon (ground)
- 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
- 1 tablespoon of vanilla brandy
For the egg wash:
- 1 tablespoon of cream
- yolk from one egg
For the crust:
- 2 ½ cups of all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon of salt
- 10 ounces of unsalted butter
- 2 teaspoons of sugar
- ½ cup of flat sour cream
Procedure:
Step 1.
Whisk together flour, salt and sugar in a bowl. Add in the butter cubes and use your hands to coat it with the flour mixture. Press butter until it becomes less than the size of a kernel corn. Create a well in the center of the flour mixture and pour sour cream into it. Use fork to mix the sour cream with the flour until clumping begins. Divide the flour into two parts. Mold both parts into a ball then flatten it. Sprinkle four onto it and wrap using plastic wrapper. Set aside and refrigerate for one hour.
Step 2.
Peel and remove the core of the apple. Slice it thinly. Place the slices into a big bowl and spray with apple cider vinegar.
Step 3.
In a separate bowl, combine the flour with the spices and sugar. Combine the resulting mixture with the apples and coat evenly using your hands. After that, sprinkle the coated apples with vanilla extract and brandy.
Step 4.
Get two baking pans and line it with baking sheet. Place one in the lowest rack and the other in the rack on top of it. Preheat the oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit.
Step 5.
Get the crust disk from the refrigerator and allow it to stand for 5-10 minutes. Use a rolling pin to flatten the disk into a 12-inch dough. Get a pie plate and place the dough in it and press the dough down to line the plate.
Step 6.
Carefully place the apples in the plate in an organized manner. Mound it in the center.
Step 7.
Get the second dough and press it into 12 inch dough. Place it on top of the apples. Fold down the dough into the pan.
Step 8.
Place cream and egg yolk in a small bowl and beat it with a fork. Get a pastry brush and dip the brush into the mixture then brush it to the dough.Cut slits on top of the dough using a knife.
Step 9.
Place the pie plate into the lowest rack and bake for 20 minutes. Reduce heat to 350 degrees Fahrenheit and bake for 45 minutes or until the juices are already bubbling.
Step 10.
Remove from oven and allow to cool for at least an hour.
