Olive Garden Breadsticks Recipe
Unlimited salad and breadsticks are two of the most beloved dishes from Olive Garden. Just one bite into a golden brown breadstick, brushed with butter and sprinkled with garlic salt, and it’s a sure bet that you’ll keep eating them until you’re so absolutely full that you have no room for your main course.
Unfortunately, you have to get up, put clothes on and drive your way to Olive Garden to get your hands on those scrumptious breadsticks.
Unless you make your own.
Although Olive Garden will probably never give up their official breadstick recipe, it doesn’t mean you can’t get close to the real thing. Learn how to make your own copycat Olive Garden breadsticks.
For this tutorial, you’ll need the following:
Breadsticks:
- 1 1/2 c. warm water
- 2 tbsp. sugar
- 1 packet yeast
- 2 tsp. fine sea salt
- 2 tbsp. softened butter
- 4-5 c. bread flour
Topping:
- 1/4 c. butter
- 1 tsp. garlic powder
Directions:
- In a bowl, mix the warm water, sugar, and yeast and let it proof for 10 minutes until it gets a bit foamy. Once that’s set, mix in the 2 tsp of salt, 2 tbsp of softened butter and 3 cups of flour. Mix and keep adding more flour until you get a soft dough mixture that doesn’t stick too much to the bowl.
- Now let the dough rise by covering the bowl with a damp cloth and placing it somewhere warm, in your kitchen where the sun hits, for an hour. Alternatively, if it’s too cold or it’s nighttime, you can turn your oven on, let it reach 170F and then turn it off. Place the bowl on the top rack and a dish of hot water beneath it and let it warm in there for an hour.
- After the hour is up, pack the dough back down and roll it up into 14-16 balls.
- From there, grab each ball and roll it out into a long breadstick shape onto greased cookie sheets. Now let them rise for another 15 to 30 minutes or until they’ve doubled in size. After they’ve risen, melt 1/4 cup of butter and mix it with the garlic powder. Brush the mixture over the unbaked breadsticks and sprinkle fine sea salt over them.
- Finally, bake your breadsticks at 400°F for 12-14 minutes (or until golden brown) and brush once more with the garlic/butter mixture. It’s important that you brush this mixture, as that’s one of the secrets that Olive Garden uses on their breadsticks.
