Have you ever tried adding healthier food to your diet? According to a survey, 66% of Americans forget to incorporate real healthy foods into their meals. And the result? Lethargic work environments, laziness, unwanted big bellies and lack of energy. I know that this is a free country but isn’t it time to make a change? It’s really not that hard you know, you just have to be aware of the things that can give you proper nutrition.
Being Healthy For A Change: Fulfilling Homemade Granola
Before going to work, I used to eat a heavy breakfast, you know the classic bacon and eggs plus a short stack of pancakes….and for a while it helped me out, but then I felt that something was still missing in my diet. It seemed that I didn’t have enough energy for work. This is a big no no ‘cause I can’t afford to lose energy in the middle of the day. I called my mom and asked her for some great breakfast recipes and she said that I should try her homemade granola. After 2 weeks of granola madness, I did feel a change in my work stamina and since then I have never stopped eating it. I suggest that you try this too if you want to start living healthfully. It’s very simple!
You will need:
- 4 cups old fashioned oats
- 2 cups almonds, sliced
- 3/4 cup vegetable oil
- 1/2 a cup of honey (or agave)
- 1 cup of roasted, unsalted cashews
- 2 cups of your preferred dried fruit
- 2 cups coconut, shredded and sweetened
Procedure:
Step 1.
Put the oats, coconut and almonds together in a large bowl.
Step 2.
Pour oil and honey (or agave) in a separate bowl and whisk until they combine.
Step 3.
Mix the liquids with the oat mixture.
Step 4.
Stir mixture until all nuts and oats are coated.
Step 5.
Pour into a baking pan, preferably a 13 x 18 x 1 inch pan.
Step 6.
Bake for 45 minutes. Stir occasionally until it turns golden brown.
Step 7.
Take mixture out of the oven and let it cool.
Step 8.
Once cool, add your preferred dried fruit ( I highly recommend berries and apricots, but it’s still your choice), and cashews (or other nuts and seeds of your choice).
Step 9.
Store in an airtight container. Best eaten with milk.
Isn’t it easy to get healthy? This is just one simple dish that will get you back on the wellness track. Be sure to make the right decisions and you’ll be feeling a lighter and healthier you in no time. Cheers!
