How To Make Homemade Peanut Butter In 5 Minutes

Primarily made from ground dry roasted peanuts, peanut butter has become a popular condiment served on everything from toasted wheat bread and slices of apples to seemingly incompatible dishes such as cheeseburgers and bacon. Whatever your preference is, it's a good idea to always have at least one case of store-bought peanut butter in your cabinet. So what happens when you've run out? Sure, you could go to the store and buy some more, but why not just make your own?

In just five minutes.

Thanks to Instructable's user kelleymarie, you can easily learn how to make homemade peanut butter in no time.

For this tutorial, you’ll need the following:

  • 2 c. peanuts
  • peanut oil (optional)
  • extra flavors (honey, cinnamon, chocolate, etc)
  • salt
  • food processor or blender
  • spatula
  • container (to store peanut butter)

Step 1: Grind Peanuts

Toss the 2 cups of peanuts into a food processor or blender and grind them together.

Grind the peanuts in one minute intervals so that you can scrape down the sides of the food processor for an even grind. Continue this process until you get the consistency you want.

Step 2: Add Oil & Salt

While it is optional, oil helps moisten your peanut butter and give it a creamier and smoother texture. Add a little bit at a time until you're satisfied. You can also add a bit of salt, which enhances the overall taste.

After those two ingredients are put into the peanut butter, blend the entire thing for another minute or two for uniformity. It's at this time that you can also feel free to add any additional ingredients, such as chocolate or honey, but that's only if we want a different taste.

Step 3: Package and Enjoy!

Once you're done mixing any additional ingredients, scrape the peanut butter from the food processor and put it into a container with a tight fitting lid. If you want it to last longer, keep it refrigerated.
