How To Open A Wine Bottle Without A Corkscrew

Method #1: With A Shoe

After taking off the foil seal, place the bottle into a men's dress shoe or boot and carefully whack the heel of it against a flat brick wall until the cork nudges its way out. When enough of the cork is able to be gripped, use your hand to remove it.

Method #2: With A Blowtorch

Don't have a corkscrew, but have a blowtorch in your garage? Use it to heat up the bottle where the wine is, so that it turns to gas and pushes the cork out. Don't heat up the glass at the very top, or else the bottleneck could explode.

Method #3: With A Screw

Using a screwdriver, twist the longest screw you own straight into the middle of the cork until the your screw becomes exposed underneath the cork. Remove the screw and cork with some pliers or a hammer.

Method #4: With A Pair Of Scissors

Slowly insert one blade of a large pair of scissors as deep as it will go, without pushing the cork in. Once the blade is snug, twist the scissors and pull up at the same time to get the cork out.

Method #5: With A Key

As long as you cork from the wine bottle is rubber, you can insert a regular house key at an angle and then twist it and pull up to get the cork out. Don't try thing with a real cork; many have reported breaking or bending their keys this way.

Method #6: With A Knife (Paring or Serrated)

This method works best with a steak knife that has a serrated edge. Vertically plunge the knife deep into the cork (without pushing it in) and then twist it and pull up to get it out.

Method #7: With Two Paper Clips

Straighten out a couple of paper clip so that they end up in a “C shape”. Insert one end of one paper clip between the rim of the bottle and the cork until it's below the bottom of the cork. Do the same with the other paper clip, on the other side of the cork and twist both paper clips so that the bottom of the papers hook into the bottom of the cork. Twist the tops of the two paper clips together tightly and then use a spoon handle, pen or pencil to lift up the paper clips and get the cork out.

Method #8: With A Leather Shoelace

Tie a knot at one end of leather shoelace and push the knot all the way down the center of the cork using a knife, spike, letter opener until the knot appears below the bottom of the cork. Wrap the shoe lace around your hand and gently pull out the cork.

Now you and your date can enjoy your wine!
