A pimento cheese spread is the perfect spread for an afternoon snacks or an appetizer before dinner. You can also use it in lots of variations of your favorite cheesy recipes. Think pimento mac and cheese, folks! However, it is also the spread that is least created at home. This is because people are used to getting pimento cheese in various grocery stores and supermarkets. If you wish to make the most out of your favorite spread, it is recommended that you try making it at home!
Homemade Pimento Cheese Recipe
You Will Need:
16 ounces of cheddar cheese
½ cup of mayonnaise
4 ounces of cream cheese
¼ teaspoon of garlic powder
¼ teaspoon of cayenne powder
¼ teaspoon of garlic powder
4 ounces of red bell pepper or pimentos
For Roasting Bell Peppers
In the event that you wish to roast your own red bell peppers, you can do so! Here are some simple instructions to do so:
Remove the insides from the bell peppers and cut them into large pieces. Wash and dry them thoroughly.
Place your pepper slices in the oven preheated to 450 degrees Fahrenheit. Turn the pepper pieces every 15 minutes.
Once you see that the skin of the bell pepper is starting to blacken, remove it from the heat and place it in a jar with a lid. Allow the peppers to cool down.
Remove the skin and dice the remains.
For Making Pimento Cheese
Grate the cheddar cheese. Make sure it is finely grated.
Get the cream cheese, place it in a bowl and whip it until it is already fluffy.
Add the mayo and continue whipping.
Add the grated cheese and all the other ingredients in the bowl with the mayo-cream cheese mixture.
You’re done! Place the pimento spread on a jar and tightly cover it. Place this in a refrigerator for 2-4 hours. Doing this will allow the flavors to blend thoroughly.
Serve this with a side dish of bread loaves or toasted bread.
Keep in mind that this refrigerated pimento spread will last up to about a week. The short span of its shelf life is because of its cream cheese content. But that won’t be a problem since this delicious spread will be gone within minutes of its completion time.
